By monitoring of several environmental parameters, we want to gain understanding about past and present landscape characteristics and eventually extrapolate into the future to model environmental changes.
From plants to landscape-level
We use the growth pattern of various vascular plants as proxies for past environmental change. Therefore we need to determine the correlation between plant growth and studied variables. This correlation is determined from overlapping periods of environmental data and plant growth.
Climate and environmental parameters are monitored using climate stations an environmental sensors, such es groundwater loggers, soil temperature sensors etc. For the continuous monitoring of plant growth we use dendrometers. In addition we use micro-coring and traditional dendroecology to establish longer records of plant growth.
