Forschungsschwerpunkte:
Die Reaktion von Ökosystemen auf globalen Wandel mit Hilfe von Experimenten auf verschiedenen Skalen (Laborversuche in Klimakammern, Experimente in Pflanztöpfen, Mesokosmenexperimente, Gradientenexperimente, Freilandexperimente, und auch Freilandbeobachtungen). Diese Methoden setzen wir ein, um die Reaktion von Ökosystemen und von Einzelarten auf sich ändernde Umweltbedingungen funktionell zu verstehen. Aktuelle Forschungsschwerpunkte sind:
- unterirdisches Pflanzenwachstums und die Rolle von Pflanzenwurzeln auf Ökosystemfunktionen
- phänotypische Plastizität und Anpassungen von Arten
- Renaturierung und Nutzung von Niedermooren
- Winterökologie (und Klimawandel im Winter)
- ökologische Bedeutung von extremen Wetterereignissen und interagierenden Klimafaktoren
